Peter Crann
Peter Crann, born in Dublin and now based in Sligo, Ireland, is a multidisciplinary artist renowned for his work as a painter, musician, and illustrator. He studied Fine Art and Graphic Design in Sligo, where his artistic journey began.Initially, Crann’s work focused on themes rooted in his challenging experiences growing up in a deeply religious Ireland during the 1980s. This influence extended into his creation of over 100 oil paintings and murals for churches in southern Spain.
After returning to Ireland, Crann immersed himself in performing and making music, before eventually blending it with his visual art. He developed the Crankie Island Song Project during the COVID-19 pandemic, collaborating with illustrators and musicians. A Crankie brings songs alive visually through a specially made Crankie Box—a vintage illuminated storytelling device—to unfold the imagery of the song in a theatrical and evocative way.
Crann's innovative approach to art and music has been showcased in various forums, including his participation in the "Artists Speak" series at the Visual Artists Ireland Get Together 2024, held at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. His work continues to explore the dynamic relationship between visual art and music, pushing the boundaries of traditional artistic expression.
